What's the benefit of the Magnetic Base Kit over swapping threaded filters?

The magnetic adapter ring installs once; after that, swapping between UV and CPL means aligning the grip tabs with the gaps in the ring and lifting off. This is most useful when conditions change quickly and you don't want to lose time with threads.


Will the Magnetic Base Kit Pro work with my lens hood?

No. Magnetic Pro Filters aren't compatible with lens hoods, Magnetic Plus Filters or Magnetic Plus Adapter Rings.

What's included, and do I need to buy separate lens caps?

The kit includes the Magnetic UV and CPL filters, the Magnetic Pro Adapter Ring, and front and back lens caps.


Can I use a step up ring adapter with the Magnetic Base Kit Pro?

No. Magnetic Pro Filters are not compatible with Urth's Threaded Step Up Ring Filter Adapter or Magnetic Step Up Ring Filter Adapter, which is designed to be used with the Magnetic Plus Filter system.


Are Urth Magnetic Pro Filters compatible with retractable lenses?

Not always. Urth Magnetic Pro Filters have a larger outer diameter than other Urth Filters, particularly the Variable ND Pro with its wider, stepped front, which can catch the lens as it extends or retracts. Retractable lenses, such as the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2.8 or the Leica D-Lux 8, can also be sensitive to added weight, so a filter may add resistance to the movement even when nothing is in the way. If you’re unsure about your lens, contact our team before purchasing.


Can I stack the Magnetic UV and CPL directly on top of each other?

Yes, magnetic filters can stack directly without extra adapters. Two filters are generally fine; going beyond that raises the risk of a weaker magnetic connection and vignetting, particularly on wider lenses.

Match the diameter (e.g. Ø49mm) on your lens to the filter size. This is different to focal length.

Mount the Magnetic Adapter Ring

Thread the Magnetic Adapter Ring to your lens. Avoid overtightening.

Attach the Filter

Align the filter's grip tabs with the gaps in the adapter ring, then twist to lock in place. Once locked, the filter rotates freely and won't detach until it's turned back to the original alignment.

Rotate the filter until the grip tabs realign with the gaps in the adapter ring, then lift to remove.

Absolute game changer

These filters are a game changer for convenience. I'm about to easily change filters on the go without having to unscrew filters. The filters also have a locking mechanism within the thread so they help to keep the filters from flying off when knocked from the side. Simply twist to align the knobs on the outside to unlock.

The downside is that the base magnetic ring doesn't fit with the lens hood on my Tamron 11-20mm f2.8. The magnetic end caps that come with the filter kit don't sit flush on the back of the filters either, so you can't really use them as a reliable storage option.
