What does the built-in 1/4 Black Mist effect do to my footage?

It softens harsh highlights and takes the edge off digital sharpness for a diffused, filmic look, while the variable ND handles exposure separately. The mist strength is fixed at 1/4 — it's always on and can't be adjusted independently of the ND rotation.

What ND range does this filter cover?

It rotates from ND2 to ND32 — 1 to 5 stops — so you can dial in exposure without swapping filters as light changes through the day. It features a hard-stop rim design preventing over-rotation and X-patterns.

Can I use a regular lens cap with this filter?

Yes. Clip-on or side-pinch lens caps sized to the filter's thread diameter work as a cover.

Can I use a step up ring adapter with this filter?

Yes. It's compatible with Urth's Threaded Step Up Ring Filter Adapter. Select the Step Up Ring Filter Adapter, not the magnetic version.

Are Urth Pro Filters compatible with retractable lenses?

Not always. Urth Pro Filters have a larger outer diameter than other Urth Filters, particularly the Variable ND Pro with its wider, stepped front, which can catch the lens as it extends or retracts. Retractable lenses, such as the Fujifilm XF 23mm f/2.8 or the Leica D-Lux 8, can also be sensitive to added weight, so a filter may add resistance to the movement even when nothing is in the way. If you’re unsure about your lens, contact our team before purchasing.

How do I clean and store this filter?

Wipe with Urth's Lens Cleaning Cloth for dust and fingerprints. The dual-sided hydrophobic coating resists water, oil and smudging. Use Urth's Lens Cleaning Spray for anything stubborn, and store it in its case when off the lens.
